Hello, we are about to start building our new house and plan to install the flooring upstairs ourselves (except for the bathroom). Upstairs there is a hallway, from which two children’s bedrooms and the master area with a walk-in closet branch off.

We are unsure about the flooring. We want to avoid laminate and vinyl... we prefer a natural floor covering instead of synthetic materials. That’s why we considered cork, but we don’t like the classic cork pattern.

Do you have any ideas or suggestions based on what you have installed?

Best regards

Just search on Google for design cork floors. Cork flooring is now available in a wide variety of designs.

An important factor with underfloor heating is the insulation effect of the floor covering.
Carpet, floorboards, hardwood flooring, etc., can significantly reduce the heat output to the room being heated. Underfloor heating will become more expensive and less energy efficient.
This must be taken into account when sizing the heating surfaces.

Best regards.

Laminate flooring is better suited for underfloor heating than hardwood. There are very attractive designs that look as natural as hardwood. If you are interested in which ones I mean, feel free to send a private message. The cost is about 25 to 29 euros per m² (10 to 11 sq ft).

We will wait and see which parquet or hardwood planks we choose for the ground floor and how they compare price-wise. That would be our first choice.
If it becomes too expensive, we will also consider cork. We are not sure about the look yet, but even with classic cork patterns, there are significant variations.
