Hello,
I read that an external lightning protection system is only required for buildings over 20m (65.6 feet) in height. However, since the weather is becoming more extreme, especially storms with severe thunderstorms, I wonder if it is worth investing in a lightning protection system on the roof of a single-family home. I have seen costs of around 800-1000€ mentioned.
What are your experiences? How do insurance companies handle claims if devices are damaged by lightning strikes?

If lightning strikes (it does not have to hit the house directly; a strike in the neighborhood can be enough), it is unfortunate, but there are insurance policies to cover such events.

If anything, you should consider installing both internal and external lightning protection. However, your budget is far from sufficient for that.
