Good morning,
I just registered and hope I can quickly find and read your answers (if there are any)!
My partner and I are building a house, and our meeting with the architect is coming up soon.
I am really fascinated by the topic of lighting design and would love to implement some of it in our home (indirect lighting, LED strips, spotlights, etc.).
Now I’ve learned how expensive it all is (LED spotlights starting at 450 euros, if you want to install them recessed in the ceiling, etc.).
Do you have any tips on how to do this relatively inexpensively?
I think you can do a lot with affordable adhesive LED strips, right? But don’t they start to look cheap and peel off over time? Also, having cables running everywhere is a big no for me! Has anyone had experience with this?
I look forward to your answers!!

fach1werk18 Dec 2021 19:48For us, the lighting design was created by a specialized lighting company, but we paid for it separately. Once we had the detailed plan, it allowed us to work on the budget using the data provided by the same company. This way, we were able to find good solutions that fit our budget. The original plan would have cost three times as much as we eventually spent. It also included Artemide lights that we couldn’t afford, but that won’t be the case for everyone.

Now I have learned HOW EXPENSIVE all of this unfortunately is (LED recessed lights starting from 450 euros when you want to install them directly into the ceiling, etc.)From what I have read here, a recessed light costs between 70 and 250 euros. Could someone please clarify?

The original plan intended to spend three times as much as we eventually did. It also included Artemide lights, which we couldn’t afford, but that doesn’t have to apply to everyone. Artemide is a lighting manufacturer, so this brings us to the point where I find some lighting designs unprofessional: lux/lumen/candela, color temperature, beam characteristics, and so on—these are the kind of neutral data I expect. Examples of specific models can be helpful, but complete bills of materials listing only certain models, which then essentially require you to write a blank check, don’t feel like proper advice to me—let alone advice worthy of a fee. In my view, that is just “value added selling.”

I’m allowed to say that, right?
We ourselves have a mix of dimmable LED floodlights, fixtures with E27 sockets (stepped dimmer), ambient lighting,
and when we say “lights on,”
nothing happens.

I always find it amusing how recessed downlights are often criticized in this forum. Every light source has its purpose! It’s all about the right combination! Nida35a made a great point that each room should be individually divided into categories!
@Grobby777 I really appreciate that you are engaging with this topic! Please keep it up!
I would approach it in this order:
Once the floor plan is finalized, everything needs to be furnished exactly to scale.
After that, you start with the lighting design.
First, the general lighting.
Then, you plan the task lighting room by room, for example, the light over work areas.
After that, the ambient and decorative lighting. This is the most beautiful lighting, which you will use the most.
This is where it gets interesting.
Lighting can also be arranged at different height levels!
For example, adjustable downlights or picture lights as decorative illumination for artwork.
Wall lamps, floor lamps, lighting for stairs and niches, and so on.
The possibilities are endless.
