Hello,
I am considering installing LED spotlights in the new kitchen. Could someone tell me which ones are worthwhile? There are many different suppliers on eBay, but I have no clear overview.
How many spotlights are needed per m² (square meter) to properly illuminate a living area or kitchen, assuming 3W spotlights?
Thanks!

As a guideline: We have 2 recessed spotlights with 9 watts each – they illuminate about 12 sqm (130 sq ft).
However, keep in mind the additional costs for installing dropped ceilings or cutting holes into the concrete ceiling. The electrician’s installation fees can be quite significant. With drywall (plasterboard), you can usually do it yourself.

What kind of lighting do you currently have in your kitchen? Is it sufficient for you, or are you looking for more?
For example, a 60W incandescent bulb produces about 710 lumens (lm), a 40W bulb about 410 lm, which is roughly equivalent to a 9W compact fluorescent lamp. A 5W LED delivers around 405 lm. More specific information can be found on the packaging or the manufacturer’s website. You can calculate the total lumens of your existing lighting and then determine how many LEDs you’ll need based on that.
Just as important as the lumen output (brightness) is the color temperature of the light. My first LEDs were cool white, which resulted in my family not wanting to use the lighting! Cool white is around 5,000K. I would recommend warm white below 3,000K.
Good luck

Hello,
At the moment, we have a conventional lamp with bulbs. However, it is a different room as we are moving into a new house.
I am already aware of the issue with light color and would also make sure to choose warm white.
Thank you very much
