Hello,
we are going to build our single-family house this year, and I have already been working on the planning for several months. Last night, I bought LED recessed downlights for hallways, dressing rooms, the kitchen, etc., and now I am wondering whether I can simply install them into the drywall or if I need special covers due to heat and fire safety concerns. Maybe someone can provide detailed information on this? Thanks in advance.

I lowered the bathroom ceiling by 10cm (4 inches) and extensively protected the vapor barrier with aluminum-foiled polystyrene rigid foam insulation before installing the drywall and drilling the holes for the recessed lights. It works perfectly fine without using a junction box with standard LED downlights.
Lowering the ceiling enough to leave sufficient air space between the recessed lights and the vapor barrier is certainly a good and cost-effective option. We have another appointment with the construction company tomorrow, and I will ask what is planned. Right now, I’m just unsure if it might be problematic that it wouldn’t be airtight then. Although the vapor barrier is supposed to seal the room, isn’t it?
