Hello everyone. I’m looking for spotlights with around 4000K and good light output.

Which spotlights are you using?
Where did you buy them?
What was the price?
CRI value?
At what distances are the spotlights installed?
Are you satisfied?

The selection and price range are extremely wide. Are the expensive ones (around €20 each) worth it, or do the ones for €5-10 work just as well or are equivalent?

Thanks in advance!

Our electrician is installing five 6-watt lights in the bathroom at 17.45 each, and 9-watt lights in the hallway at 22.00 each. On the exterior eaves, he’s using 9-watt stainless steel fixtures at 26.45 each, prices include installation. Since he has the same ones in his own house, I think the quality is okay. I don’t know the brand. It doesn’t have to be the most expensive to be good. Ask him which ones he would choose for his own home, look him in the eyes. Karsten

We have GU10 spots with LED modules from LEDON. Just look them up online. Their color rendering is among the best. Light output is decent, but you shouldn’t trust the so-called conversion from halogen watts to LED watts. From a technical perspective, color rendering and light output are somewhat at odds. We are satisfied overall, but in hindsight, we would have chosen neutral white instead of warm white for some rooms, around 3500 K. 4000 K might be a bit too cool.

I’ll just join in here, even though my question is more about the light source itself:

Is the Color Rendering Index (CRI) overrated, or should you specifically look for, for example, a CRI above 90 for LEDs in areas like the kitchen countertop or the bathroom mirror?

Because so far, I haven’t seen any bathroom mirror cabinets or under-cabinet lights for kitchen wall cabinets with a CRI above 90.

Philips Hue, for example, only specify that their CRI is above 80. Is it maybe more important to focus on the right color temperature and brightness? So that using Philips Hue White Ambiance could also work well?

What do you think, or what experiences have you had?

There is a wide range of features and prices available.
The spacing is determined by the fixtures, the distance of the illuminated area, the type of surfaces, and the required amount of light.
A CRI above 80 is already quite good. It’s better to consider how repairable the fixtures are and how long spare parts are guaranteed.
We have dimmable spotlights (3000 K) from Bega with DALI power supplies and are very satisfied.
However, I believe this might not be what you are looking for due to the price.
