Hello,
we are currently planning the garden, and as part of this, we want to lay an underground cable at the back of the garden. For this, a conduit (a standard corrugated pipe) has been installed from the fuse box in the basement through the basement wall to the outside. The corrugated pipe ends about 50cm (20 inches) outside the basement wall.

If I now install an underground cable, I would prefer not to lay it directly in the soil but also protect it with a corrugated pipe, as is commonly recommended.

How can I extend the corrugated pipe from the basement wall in a watertight way? Are there watertight sleeves, sealants, or similar products available for this purpose?

As an alternative, it might also be possible to seal the corrugated pipe watertight (after pulling through the underground cable) using silicone or well foam, and simply lay a second corrugated pipe alongside the first one through the garden without using a connector.

How is this usually handled? Surprisingly, I cannot find much information about this online...

What is supposed to happen if it simply lies in the ground? Waterproofing is definitely unnecessary. A pipe as additional mechanical protection is more than enough.
But yes, waterproofing would also be possible. There are heat-shrink sleeves that you can shrink onto the respective pipes... In my opinion, though, it is unnecessary.

When it comes to cables in the garden, the main concern is actually mechanical protection.
Waterproofing is especially important for the conduit that runs through the basement wall to the distribution board. I want to make sure that water doesn't enter the distribution board during heavy rain.

If you drill holes on the underside, any water that enters should be able to drain out again.

I like the heat shrink tubing.
How long should the underground cable be?
It should definitely be buried below the frost line, and a warning tape along the route wouldn't hurt either.

Hi,

I had similar thoughts about 20 years ago when I was dealing with an underground cable to the garage. You consider all sorts of things; back then, I routed the empty conduits into a plastic container and sealed the entries with acrylic and tape. That was actually completely unnecessary.

However, if you seal anything with silicone on live electrical parts, you should make sure the silicone is not "acetoxy-curing." This type of silicone can cause short circuits because it is electrically conductive. Unfortunately, I know this from personal experience 😡.
