Hello everyone,
As part of our house construction, the telecom company installed a cable that was laid in the supply and drainage trench together with various pipes by our excavation contractor.
We were advised to pull the cable through a separate conduit.
However, our excavation contractor laid the cable directly in the trench without using a conduit.
The trench is already half completed (30 meters (100 feet)) and has been closed again.
This only came to my attention when I asked my husband how the cable was installed. He doesn’t see it as a problem and does not want to reopen the trench.
In my opinion, the excavation contractor simply forgot.
Therefore, my questions are: Should we leave it as is, or is it better to open the trench again?
Will the telecom company complain?

According to the telecom provider, the phone cable may be installed without a conduit. Safety distances to other utilities must be observed. A warning tape must also be laid.
This information is all stated on the information sheet that the client receives from the telecom provider upon order confirmation.

We gave the information sheet to the civil engineer. He has been in the business for over 20 years.
He simply forgot that the cable was supposed to be installed inside a conduit.
He believes that if the cable still needs to be pulled through a conduit, the trench must be opened manually because there are several other conduits in the trench (gas, water, wastewater x2). They are at different depths, but you never know what might go wrong. This section has already been approved by the civil engineering department.
We have now decided to have the remaining 30 m (100 feet) installed in a conduit, and the completed section will remain as it is for now.
Thanks for the responses.
