Hello,
we hired a company to install natural stone using hydraulic lime mortar. Shortly before the work started, I was told that the base of the house wall (plinth) still needs waterproofing, and that this is normally the responsibility of the structural builder.
I’m not sure why the structural builder should be responsible for this. Can I realistically expect them to come back after the plastering of the wall and before or after the terrace is laid to apply the waterproofing?
Can someone advise whether this is typically included in the scope of the flooring contractor, or if someone here might not be aware of their responsibilities and their competence should be questioned?
Best regards

That was not included in our building permit application (planning permission) either.
In our case, the landscaping contractor assigned an apprentice for that, which kept the costs low.
You just need to keep in mind that shorter warranty periods apply to landscaping work.
Therefore, it might be better to have the house builder do it instead.
I’m not sure if the structural builder would handle that.
For our house builder, there was usually a special team for finishing work.

Often, neither of the two takes care of this—a classic interface problem. The structural builder doesn’t know how the terrain and terrace are going to be designed, so they don’t do it. The landscaper assumes they are only responsible for the terrace and has nothing to do with the wall.
I would argue that both are capable of handling it.

What is the current situation? Can you provide a description or photos? How does the base of the house look on the other sides where there is no terrace?
