Hello everyone,
we are currently looking for a lawn mower – we have about 600 m² (approximately 6458 sq ft) of lawn, and eventually we plan to plant some bushes and other plants as well.
Our landscape gardener recommended a Sabo mower – does anyone have experience with it? I would prefer a mulching mower. I found Makita quite appealing, while others swear by Honda or Husqvarna...
I’d rather avoid a corded mower – battery-powered ones are also quite expensive; right now, I am most convinced by a gasoline mower.
Thanks for your tips and opinions.

Battery for 600m² (6500 sq ft)? With a fully charged, new battery, I often didn’t manage more than 150m² (1600 sq ft), even though the mower was rated for 550–600m² (5900–6500 sq ft). Three houses away, they had the exact same experience. I don’t want to think about how often you have to recharge once the batteries start to lose capacity.
Hello everyone,
I would definitely lean towards a petrol mower here.
A riding mower for 600m² (about 6450 sq ft) – are you serious? I have roughly 1400m² (about 15,070 sq ft) of land, and after subtracting the house and paths, there are still around 1000m² (about 10,760 sq ft) to mow. With a mulching function, I can easily finish in 2 hours.
My parents have a riding mower for 2400m² (about 25,830 sq ft), which makes sense for them. The biggest effort for them is refining the areas the riding mower doesn’t really reach.
I chose a petrol lawn mower with a large cutting width (>50cm (20 inches)), a large collection bag (>70L (about 18 gallons)), and self-propulsion. I found a good price/performance ratio with the company Hecht (available directly from the manufacturer or, for example, on online marketplaces). So far, I’m completely satisfied. Delivery was also smooth.

I mow about 250m² (2700ft²) with half a battery charge (4.0 Ah capacity), and usually only after 2–3 weeks, so the grass is cut at a relatively high length. For this size, I would generally recommend buying a second battery, which can also be used for other tools like hedge trimmers or grass trimmers.
The advantages for me are clear: lightweight, fewer wear parts, and charging the battery with solar power.
Somehow, I probably picked the wrong ones.
There were quite a few battery-powered mowers on eBay that were sold again after just one year.
I switched to a petrol mower.
Downside: heavy and unwieldy,
Upside: powerful, actually collects the grass unlike my previous battery-powered mower, significantly faster, and cheaper.
