Hello,
In the current kitchen trash chute thread, I came across the following quote:

You always have to clean these from time to time, since something will occasionally spill or drip inside.
Wouldn’t a chute around the corner be more effective?

Regarding laundry chutes, how do you handle hygiene? Are the pipes always made of antibacterial metal, or how do you clean them?
Nothing typically spills outside, but it’s also not the case that they are completely clean or free of dirt inside.

Thank you very much for your suggestions.

What is supposed to happen there? Are you all afraid that something will grow and crawl out? I mean, everything that comes into contact with the pipe ends up in the washing machine by definition anyway....

Yes, I don’t understand the concerns either.

It should be obvious not to throw any contaminated materials in there.

Unfortunately, the world is not foolproof. But efforts are being made, as there is nothing else to do.

How much laundry do you actually hang up? For us, 90% goes straight into the dryer. Done.
Same here, then on the clothesline afterwards. Or do you run the 4-hour super dry cycle and then fold everything right away and put it in the closet?

We always do an hour to remove lint and soften the clothes, then hang them up.

4:15h and then straight into the closet.

Somehow, I find it hard to believe that such a laundry chute wouldn’t eventually become a breeding ground for bacteria...

So I’d probably prefer to carry the laundry basket down instead of just up (there’s no way you could call it dragging). Going down is easier anyway.

How often do you disinfect your laundry baskets? You’re carrying the dirty laundry down in them. Then the basket goes into the clean room, gets pressure-washed, treated with disinfectant, and then the clean sterile laundry goes in? Or do you perhaps put the clean laundry in the same basket as the dirty laundry?

The dirty laundry goes down the chute. Even if some kind of germs personally live in there, I don’t care. There’s a lid at the top and the basement at the bottom.
