Hello,

We have a driveway (24 meters (79 feet) long and between 4 and 7 meters (13 and 23 feet) wide, narrowing diagonally from wide to narrow) that was constructed in November 2013 with a recycled subbase and loose gravel on top. After almost 1.5 years, most of the gravel has been pushed into the subbase in the wheel track areas, so we plan to rake off all the gravel in spring when it is dry enough, lay down a geotextile filter fabric, and then add new gravel on top.

Now, there is always a large puddle of water at one spot during prolonged or heavy rain. This might be where vehicles enter and exit the property and perform turning movements, or it could be that the subbase was too wet during installation (there was a lot of rain at that time) and the material at that spot was not compacted well enough due to trapped water.

The question is whether it would make more sense to fill that area and adjust it according to the slope (which would then drain across the width towards a drainage channel located in front of a carport) or if it would be better to install a localized drainage inlet (there is a rainwater connection chamber nearby).

I also suspect that this area has settled the most because it was excavated deepest there (to connect to the existing access chambers).

The first picture was taken during very heavy rain, this one shows more typical daily conditions

I would add fill material and level the slope again. You have a drainage channel where the water can flow.

I suspect that the fill material has compacted over time. We experienced a similar situation in our yard a few years ago.
