Hello everyone,

We have reserved a plot of land that we plan to buy and build on with a developer. Due to building windows, cardinal directions, and other factors, there are many different options regarding the placement of the house, the entrance and garage sides, the number and position of terraces, and so on. We are currently working on a few options with our house consultant, but I think it could be approached even more “professionally,” right?

I know a landscape architect is usually involved for the garden once the house is already built, but to what extent does it make sense to involve such a professional early on to properly prepare the garden layout for terrace placement, etc.? Also, how much can someone like this help with positioning the house itself, since these aspects are all interconnected?

Thanks in advance!

That makes sense, if you have enough money left over for this little luxury 😉

Hello,

well, whether it really has to be a landscape architect, I would like to open that up for discussion... 😉

We involved the landscaping contractor we trust in the planning stage before construction began, and we were more than surprised by everything he recommended, offered, and ultimately executed perfectly.

From the strip foundations for the garages, to the complete drainage system (downpipe connections, light wells, basement light courts, garage drainage, courtyard drainage, as well as backwater valves where necessary), installation of a cistern (under the courtyard) with a water outlet in the garden, construction of the natural stone wall for the terrace, enclosing the property with a base wall and fence, leveling the garden, sowing the lawn, edging and constructing the light wells, building the stairs to the front door and terrace, as well as paving the garage driveway, parking space, terrace, and entrance area — all of this was handled by our landscaping contractor.

He even gave us a few tips regarding the drainage pipes that saved us several meters of piping compared to the architect’s original plan, which meant real savings.

Therefore, I recommend involving this trade as early as possible in the process.

Best regards,

Dirk
