Picknicker8 Feb 2021 12:15Hello everyone,
I am reaching out to you with a topic that I unfortunately don’t fully understand:
It concerns a single-family house with three floors (basement, ground floor, upper floor). A fiber optic connection from the telecom provider has been installed in the basement.
Conduits for Access Points have already been planned on all floors.
My idea was to use a FritzBox in the basement as the central router and Ubiquiti PoE Access Points.
This is a purely private connection, and basic telephony should be possible throughout the entire house without any complicated features.
My questions are:
I am not clear whether it’s possible to make calls throughout the house using DECT phones routed via the Access Points?
Or are AVM WLAN phones the simplest solution?
What would you suggest as a state-of-the-art and clean setup?
Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Picknicker8 Feb 2021 13:40Thank you for the response.
Would I still need a separate landline telephone device, or is it possible to handle calls entirely via smartphone (iPhone) for both receiving and making calls?

What would you suggest as the best way to set this up using current best practices?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.DECT is not Wi-Fi (period). What exactly do you mean by “state-of-the-art”? Or do you rather mean “according to recognized technical standards” or “current industry standards”?
In that case, IP telephony would certainly be recommended. Although a DECT phone connected to a FritzBox on an all-IP connection is technically IP telephony, the endpoint itself is not a native IP phone.
So: If you want a non-technical setup, DECT is certainly fine (DECT also has its advantages). Then you would use FritzBoxes as Wi-Fi access points and DECT base stations/repeaters to create a mesh network—done.
This is a proven and reliable standard.
If you want something more specific, you would first need to define your exact requirements so that we can provide better advice here.
Either add an extra Fritzbox as a DECT base station (there are several guides available online) or use, for example, Gigaset stations with LAN and DECT. The Fritzbox can also simply act as an IP telephone device. As mentioned before, this has absolutely nothing to do with mesh or Wi-Fi.
I still really like my two Fritz Fon C6 phones in 2021. You just press call and it dials. No need to search for your iPhone, unlock it, open an app, or hope you have reception, and so on.
