ᐅ Recommendation for a KNX Smart Home Video Intercom System – Single-Family Home

Hello everyone,

I am currently considering the intercom system for our house planning.
Friends have recommended the Doorbird D2101V so far. (Price/performance is okay, although the camera quality is not outstanding.)
Do you have any good alternatives that you could suggest?

General information:
- The house will be wired with KNX
- The fingerprint scanner is already integrated directly into the door

Many thanks!

Ah okay.. How would you implement that then? We want to give our kids the possibility to see who is there via camera.

Use a Doorbird Video indoor station or an app on a suitably mounted tablet (or multiple tablets). Within your LAN, you don’t necessarily need cloud services if you don’t require notifications or access while away from home.

Which visualization system would you generally recommend? I use an Android phone but my wife uses Apple.

It depends on whether you want a ready-made solution or are looking for a new hobby 🙂 I mostly use Basalte or Control4, depending on the requirements. At home, I run Control4 alongside HomeAssistant for more advanced functions. In the KNX environment, I find the Jung Smart Visu Server ("standard" or Pro) quite good as well.

For my new build, I might use Basalte or Control4 with PEAKnx/Youvi, depending on how developed these are by then. Except for HomeAssistant, the others require a professional installer—you can’t do it yourself. Others like Eisbär (which is a bit costly), ioBroker (covers a lot and is easy to set up), or IP Symcon (popular among peers) as well. There are no universal recommendations. Either you dive deep into the topic yourself or hire a professional.

For my new build, I might choose Basalte or Control4 combined with PEAKnx/Youvi, depending on how far each option has progressed. Except for HomeAssistant, you’ll need a professional installer for these systems; they are not DIY projects. Others like Eisbär (which is a bit costly), ioBroker (which covers a lot and is easy to set up), and some colleagues swear by IP Symcon... so there’s no one-size-fits-all recommendation. Either you invest time to dive deeply into the topic yourself or you hire someone to do it for you.

Wow, that’s a lot of research for me now 🙂 I don’t want to get too deep into it. Especially since a friend who’s quite skilled will do the programming for me 🙂 Is any of the visualization systems you mentioned compatible with both Android and Apple? I still refuse to switch to Apple.

Then just ask him. If he is very skilled, he should be able to recommend something and implement it.

Yes, all of them are.

Yes, all of them.
So basically, I meant he is quite skilled when it comes to programming 🙂 He even programmed his own house. But he only knows that one software.
Thank you very much for your recommendations! I’ll get started now 🙂

So apparently it’s a closed system... so integrating it with a tablet won’t work...

I agree that it doesn’t work with HomeKit. However, they do offer an app that provides "basic" functions on smartphones and iPads.

With Youvi, you can only use PEAKnx hardware, is that correct?
