Hello everyone,

I am currently considering the intercom system for our house planning.
Friends have recommended the Doorbird D2101V so far. (Price/performance is okay, although the camera quality is not outstanding.)
Do you have any good alternatives that you could suggest?

General information:
- The house will be wired with KNX
- The fingerprint scanner is already integrated directly into the door

Many thanks!

Hello,

We have decided on the Gira 106 integrated into the mailbox. Unfortunately, I can’t report on the quality yet, as it will only be installed in the coming weeks. Our system is also connected to KNX.

Intercom systems and KNX generally only directly affect each other in cases where you want to fully integrate the intercom into your home automation visualization. Is something like that planned? For example, the Gira Home Server prefers to communicate with Gira devices, Jung expert systems work very well with Siedle, Basalte integrates excellently with Siedle and 2N, etc. Open visualization platforms usually list compatible intercoms on their respective websites (make sure video functionality is truly supported!). If you want to receive calls on your app while you’re away from home, things get a bit more complex.

Otherwise, you could use the intercom system as a standalone device and capture the doorbell signal (for additional actions) and the door release signal with its relays, for example, through a binary input. Then, using KNX, you can trigger the door to open (never connect the door directly to the intercom unit next to it!).

I recently set up several Doorbird 2101 units, and they work very smoothly. Also the integration with Control4 goes well for these clients. Otherwise, I am a big fan of 2N.

What exactly do you mean by "integrating into visualization"?
Basically, we want to visually see who is at the door inside the house, as well as on our phone when we’re away. 🙂

The Doorbird 2101 seems to fulfill its purpose well and reliably. I’m just torn about the camera quality, and now that I’ve seen the VDM10, I find it more visually appealing (and more affordable) as well.

The Gira is quite expensive, though...

That’s true, but you only do it once 🙂
The mailbox is almost just as expensive 🙂 : )
Then the iPad and the iPad wall mount add up even more...

In my opinion, everything should work seamlessly together with the house cameras and the iPad etc., and most importantly, it has to function properly. I’d rather pay a bit more for that...

But the Gira is quite something when it comes to costs...

And when you then see that the price is for this image quality, it makes you question even more things...

We basically want to be able to visually see who’s at the door inside the house, or even via the smartphone when we’re away. 🙂
What does it mean to take the intercom system independently?

I mean the visualization for building control, i.e., for example, controlling the KNX system via a display, tablet, or app. But it sounds like you don’t have that anyway. Then you can simply choose the most appealing door intercom and use its own app or video intercom function. If you want to integrate the intercom into such a visualization, it needs to be compatible so you don’t have to work with multiple apps or displays.

Yes, the visualization is already planned. Most likely via a tablet (probably an iPad). The entire home automation system should be controllable through the iPad, including unlocking the door. So you can also visually see who is knocking at the door 🙂
