Hello everyone,
Does anyone have experience regarding the additional cost of a brick veneer facade compared to a plaster/render facade? Approximately how much extra should one expect?
Has anyone regretted choosing a brick veneer for their house?
Thank you very much.

Klinkerstyle9 Jul 2022 19:39We love brick cladding and will have it applied to our bungalow. In our area (east), this is quite unusual, and we were glad to find someone willing to do it. The savings from plastering are roughly offset by the higher building permit / planning permission costs. Otherwise, our quote is a solid 33,000€ with the Röben Moorbrandt brick in sand yellow mixed tones.
Back in 2020, I asked our general contractor about using a brick from Röben. He obtained several quotes and compared them to his own cost estimates. The result was about €65,000.
He himself could hardly believe it at first and checked various alternatives. The result stayed the same. Therefore, I went with plaster as originally ordered.
It was not typical general contractor overcharging; these were actually the incoming offers for materials, masonry, and pointing.

I would also mention appearance. In the area where I work, the development plan requires brick facades because there used to be a brickworks there centuries ago (even though bricks are rather uncommon in the south). Some houses look good, many look average, and you can easily tell that some just have cheap brick veneers glued on without any consideration for how the house actually looks.
Long story short: if you go for it, do it properly and not the cheap option 😉 For me, appearance is more of the advantage of brick. 🙂 But as always, it’s a matter of personal taste. I envy anyone who lives in a nicely brick-clad house.

But when I think of our old office... pale red obvious imitations combined with blue metal sheets... a white rendered façade would have been better after all...Similar topics
