Hello everyone,

Does anyone have experience regarding the additional cost of a brick veneer facade compared to a plaster/render facade? Approximately how much extra should one expect?

Has anyone regretted choosing a brick veneer for their house?

Thank you very much.

I don't see any disadvantage to brick cladding except for the price.

Unfortunately, it is not very common in my area.

No, I don’t. But you need to compare between a monolithic wall or external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS, also called external wall insulation) versus brick veneer. Then there is also the question of the brick itself – which size/format and installation method will affect the price, in addition to the usual price differences between bricks of the same format.

I have lived in a fully brick-clad house (classic multicolored red brick), then in a mixed house (ground floor with brick in a large 2DF format and upper floor with ETICS), and now I am applying ETICS onto a brick-veneer facade in my new house.

No, I do not regret choosing brick. However, it does not offer significant advantages except for issues related to dirt and sensitivity to external factors. In my opinion, quality brick looks “more valuable” in appearance. That is just my personal view.

From what I have read, prices ranged between 15 and 25,000 for a typical 160 m² (1,722 ft²) house about 5 years ago. It also depends on the size of the house and the type of facing brick. These are approximate base prices.

Our builder wanted €22,000 (2019 price list) for brick cladding instead of plaster, but only for the ground floor; the upper floor of the “townhouse” was to be plastered. We decided against it. That was a developer price—they really push it. So, more of an upper-end figure.

Our neighbors are building their bungalow with brick cladding, and I’m really in love with their façade. Wienerberger ... I’d need to ask for more details.

In my opinion, the price is the only reason to say no.

I would also mention the appearance. In the area where I work, the zoning plan requires brick facades because there used to be a brickworks here long ago (even though bricks are not common in the south). Some houses look good, many are average, and with some you can clearly see that only cheap imitations were applied without any consideration for how the house looks.
Long story short: if you do it, do it properly and not the budget option 😉
