Hello everyone,

I would appreciate some critical feedback on my kitchen layout.
Attached are rendered images and the floor plan of the living and dining area.

The goal was a modern kitchen without a high-end focus for a two-person household.
The color is light gray and the countertop is matte granite in a cloudy anthracite tone.
I definitely want to keep my side-by-side refrigerator, even though the next one will probably be a French door model.
The dishwasher is located in the lower left under the oven (which includes a steam function).

The island measures 2.00 x 1.00 meters (6 ft 7 in x 3 ft 3 in). The distance between the kitchen row and the island is about 1 meter (3 ft 3 in).
The initial design sketch showed a wider island, but we adjusted it on site because it would have been too bulky.

Why place the base cabinet with the waste system near the cooktop? You usually need it, for example, when preparing vegetables at the sink or when disposing of scraps taken out of the sink.

I find it interesting how different the behavior patterns are. We never cut food over the sink, always on the cooktop. We also never leave scraps in the sink, unless we specifically want to soak something there, which is very rare. Still, we keep the trash under the sink.

This approach, for example, has led us to realize that we never want a handleless kitchen again.

What do you find problematic about it?

Still, we have the trash bin under the sink.

Would you do it the same way again, or would you prefer to have the trash bin (possibly in addition) near the cooktop?

What bothers you about it?

Push-to-open mechanisms that break after a while, no way to hang a cloth, fingerprints on doors and drawers.
We haven’t had them for 10 years now and simply don’t find them practical.

Honestly, I don’t see the need for us. I always chop on a board on the island. I put the scraps on a paper towel while I’m working. When I’m done, I fold the four corners together, turn around once, and toss it in the trash under the sink.
I find it more practical to have the trash there just for space reasons. Because of the siphon, you can’t really use the full base cabinet anyway.

When I clean and cut vegetables, I need to use the sink; otherwise, I would constantly have to carry the wet vegetables dripping between the sink and the kitchen island.
