Hello everyone,
we are currently working on the kitchen planning for our new build (not yet started).
The kitchen has an area of 16.3 m² (175 sq ft) and is planned to be open to the living/dining room. Attached are the floor plan and a 3D model of the kitchen as we currently envision and have designed it.
The U-shape seems to be the most practical layout for us. However, when looking at the model, we wonder if the space in the middle (i.e., inside the U) could be used more efficiently. Perhaps we are also too focused on the U-shape.
Maybe some of you have similar floor plans and ideas on how to conceptually arrange the kitchen layout?
Since we are building without a basement, we will need enough storage space.
Best regards

Mastermind18 Apr 2018 21:26A storage room is probably missing if the house is built without a basement. Small pantry cabinets are certainly possible, but where do you put beverage crates?
Before the approval meeting with the house builder, we contacted a kitchen specialist (a small furniture store) for a preliminary consultation. He had good ideas and suggestions that we implemented almost exactly. In terms of price, the small furniture store was also the best option. We only obtained two or three additional quotes from large companies for comparison—same brand, identical fronts, kitchen appliances almost identical...
I would suggest talking to a kitchen specialist in advance (you probably know someone who can recommend one, or neighbors who were satisfied).

first of all, thank you for your previous answers!
At the moment, I’m mainly interested in what could be done without planning every centimeter in detail. I’m looking more for ideas since we are not committed to anything specific ourselves.
We are building a large garage with an extension plus a walkable attic to be used as a basement replacement.

hemali20039 Apr 2018 13:27I would consider whether it’s possible to include a small pantry. I’m really glad to have one, even though ours is only 2.2 m² (24 sq ft).
Here are some spontaneous thoughts—perhaps just something to consider. We have a similar floor plan. Our cooktop is located in the corner where your sink currently is. This allows for a nicer installation of the range hood than next to a window. Our sink is to the left of the cooktop, positioned in front of the window. The window has fixed glazing in the lower section. Even though there isn’t much hand washing anymore, I still appreciate the view. Another important point for me is that a 90cm (35 inch) cooktop can be installed. Unfortunately, that was no longer possible for us afterwards. My sister-in-law had a corner sink and was very unhappy with it.

We are building a large garage with an extension plus a walkable attic space to replace a basement. The storage room is still missing, isn’t it? Or are you insulating the garage so well that it never goes below freezing in winter and never reaches 35°C (95°F) in summer?I would install a pantry along the existing large kitchen wall, start from the sliding door connected to the kitchen, and then create a U-shape or G-shape layout, removing the floor-to-ceiling window. Unfortunately, it gets in the way of everything, and you end up frustrated with a large kitchen that still feels too small....

We saw a corner sink during a tour of the furniture store. What are the disadvantages of a corner sink?
A pantry would certainly be a nice feature.
We also considered removing the floor-to-ceiling windows. Since we have four of these on the house side (2 on the ground floor, 2 on the upper floor), I think both on the ground floor would have to be removed to maintain symmetry.
