Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!

That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...

Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...

The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.

After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.

The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

Yes, you have a lot of storage space, but no usable surface area.

Once it’s tucked away in the cupboard, it tends to get used only rarely. I assume your pantry is a windowless room, where using electrical appliances openly is difficult or uncomfortable? Since people generally prefer to keep surfaces tidy rather than use them for placing appliances, you often end up feeling frustrated when using a device, thinking “messy, annoying, I need to put this away.”
That’s a shame!
And who wants to have Siri around all the time?
Siri itself can’t cook either.

If I’m right, then I want your Thermomix. Please send me a private message with your address.

You don’t know my wife. I was always against the TM, but she actually uses it regularly.
By the way, from today we are sleeping in the house.

Here are some pictures of our kitchen.
Modern black kitchen with island, sink, and oven, plenty of light from windows.

Modern kitchen with gray concrete countertop, pull-out wooden shelf, and induction cooktop.

Modern, dark kitchen unit with built-in oven, microwave, sink, and light wooden countertop.

Personally, I would find the small corner too dark, and I would at least miss having a small prep sink on the island when cooking. But the first is a matter of personal taste, and the second is my own particular preference *g*.
Also, the wall solution in the niche makes it feel too dark for me. I like the wooden countertop idea—it looks stylish—but I would be worried about constantly bumping into it (I’m a specialist at hitting every corner, and if something sticks out so prominently into the room, that would be my personal Waterloo). I would have liked it better if the wooden surface wasn’t just placed on top of the worktop but integrated into it. It feels a bit too layered there visually when you look from the side.

Please let us know how the front holds up against fingerprints!

In any case, have fun cooking in your new kitchen!!!

Unfortunately, the pictures are not very good; the kitchen is actually quite bright.

The kitchen has been installed for 1.5 weeks, and the fingerprints are acceptable, no worse than in our old kitchen. It is also very easy to maintain and clean. However, there are certainly easier-to-maintain colors.

The counter was not possible with a 15mm (0.6 inch) ceramic countertop, and so far, no one has bumped into it. The passageway is 1.13m (3 feet 8 inches) wide.
