Hello,

We are currently planning our kitchen.

Since it’s a big and unclear jungle and it’s hard to compare everything, I wanted to ask for your help.

We believe that when you go to a showroom and don’t exactly know what you want or need, you might end up paying too much.

I wanted to ask which kitchen brands are good in terms of quality and durability, without being excessively overpriced.

We basically want a mid-range kitchen for our house.

Kitchen cabinets: Nobilia or Nolte kitchens (please suggest other good brands that meet our criteria).

Kitchen appliances: Neff, Bosch, Siemens, or which appliance brands would you recommend? The appliances should have good functions and offer comfort.

Sink: no idea.

I hope you can recommend good brands for cabinets, appliances, and sinks based on your own positive experiences.

Maybe there are also kitchen builders among you who can provide advice as well.

They are all one brand group, including Gaggenau and some smaller items. You can buy any of them. There is a wide range from lower to higher-end. Only for the hood can you choose a higher-quality manufacturer depending on your requirements.

Classics are Franke and Blanco.

Any kitchen studio can offer that. Even if prices start around $25,000, thanks to package deals, house discounts, and other “special offers,” they usually come down to about $12,500.

Discuss your budget and alternatively ask for a price quote for the kitchen without appliances – then you can purchase and have them installed separately.

You can buy Nolte kitchens for 8,000 euros or for 25,000 euros. What matters more is what you can afford and what you want.

If you want something affordable and good, also take a look at Ikea. The Metod kitchens are very competitively priced. There is assembly and planning help available on Facebook. A few skilled installers have emerged there who are cheaper than Ikea’s installers and can assist you.

Our budget is around 15,000 euros.

We have already visited a kitchen fitter, and with a standard kitchen without any extras, the cost came to 19,000 euros.

That is why we want to prepare for the next meeting with a different kitchen fitter and specify some brands in advance.

Which brand of range hood would you recommend? Also brands like Neff, Bosch, and others?

There is good news for you: nowadays it is difficult to buy a bad device. So, you really can’t go wrong. You quickly get used to the quirks of different devices. The variety of functions often influences the buying decision more than the actual practical benefit in everyday life. (By the way, I regularly fall for the appeal of many functions and then rationalize it afterward). With this knowledge, you can confidently trust your gut feeling when it comes to choosing devices.

It’s a shame that you think that way. Of course, you’re not alone with that view. There are certainly bad actors as well as great providers. With some life experience and a bit of luck, even a layperson can usually tell the difference quite well. When you visit, pay attention to the following aspects:
  • Can I see that the person genuinely loves their job? (e.g., enthusiasm…)
  • Do I get the impression that the person is truly interested in us? (and not just in our plan and a few stated wishes—also watch how they answer your questions: is it just a simple answer, or are they interested in the background of the question…)
  • Do the people in the showroom treat each other the way I would find pleasant and respectful? (Theory: someone who doesn’t treat colleagues and employees well probably won’t treat customers well either.)

If you assess your provider on a personal level during the conversation, not just based on their offer, you will find a good partner you can trust. Having trust increases your confidence in the decision. This will help you.

Buying a kitchen is like buying a car—you can choose to add or leave out any extras.

We are getting a Häcker kitchen with all appliances from Siemens, except for the refrigerator. All appliances are from the Studioline range. Our kitchen costs 21,000 euros, but that won’t help you much since everyone’s kitchen sizes differ. For example, our price also includes boxed wall elements finished with drywall.

For my part, I looked up all the appliances on Siemens’ website, then searched online for the preferred model, read reviews and test results, and checked prices. I noted down the exact model number and gave it to the kitchen supplier.

This way, you can plan the kitchen with or without appliances and perhaps get a better sense of the costs.

But I still believe that making a precise comparison is extremely time-consuming.
