Hello,

we received a quote for our kitchen.

The kitchen has the following features: Nobilia white high-gloss, handleless.
All wall cabinets open upwards.
The rest mainly consists of drawers and few cabinet doors (and one corner cabinet).

We decided on a granite countertop. What are your experiences with granite countertops?
We only know advantages, with price being the only downside.

All appliances are Siemens IQ700. What do you think of them? They should be good quality, right?
Induction cooktop, 80 or 90 cm (31 or 35 inches)?

Thank you very much for your opinions.

Sorry, I’m not very familiar with this.

Manufacturer: Siemens, like all other kitchen appliances
Type: wall-mounted angled canopy hood
Recirculation mode
409 m³/h (240 CFM) on the highest standard setting, or 615.0 m³/h (362 CFM) on the intensive setting

This hood was recommended to us by the kitchen fitter and is also one of the few that is actually 80 cm (31.5 inches) wide.

My question is: how powerful, or how much air should it at least extract to be sufficient for us and filter enough air in an open-plan house?

I can only recommend not to save money on the hood – that’s why I also suggested possibly saving on the countertop instead. In my opinion, this is often seriously underestimated when buying a kitchen, and I frequently hear from private users: "My hood is just terrible..."

Berbel Ergoline 2 – an outstanding unit... worth every cent.

Unfortunately, the kitchen studio can only offer Siemens products.

It's not about the money; I really want to have something reliable for the kitchen.

With Siemens, they only have the 80 cm (31.5 inches) models; for a better one, we would need to go with 90 cm (35.4 inches).

It's not about the money for me; I really want something decent for the kitchen.

The kitchen studio wants to sell you Siemens because that has the highest profit margin for them. If I were you, I would look for a good range hood myself and suggest ordering that one—they will of course arrange it.

Then don't get it from the kitchen showroom. You can also install a recirculating range hood yourself.

Other manufacturers with appealing designs include: Falmec, Faber, Nodor, and ernestomeda – don’t just look at the standard range...

1. With recirculation, the hood only achieves 469 cubic meters per hour on the intensive setting (though the website doesn’t specify if this includes the effect of an activated carbon filter—if so, the actual performance may be even lower).
2. The unit is from the lower price range and consequently has limited performance.
3. The 90 cm (35.4 inches) model doesn’t offer much more power either.
4. If performance is really important to you, consider, for example, the Berbel BKH 90 GL-2 Glassline (the shield doesn’t fog up while cooking, unlike cheaper hoods)—however, this costs around 2,500 euros at retail plus 100 euros for the recirculation kit, offering almost the same efficiency as a traditional extractor hood.
