ᐅ Kitchen appliances you wouldn’t want to live without?

Hello everyone,

Like many others, I am building a new house and sooner or later I will need to plan the kitchen as well.
In my current rental apartment, I have a standard fridge-freezer combination stacked vertically (80cm (31.5 inches) wide), a ceramic cooktop, and a combined oven with fan.
I also use countertop appliances like an electric kettle, sous-vide stick, microwave, vacuum sealer, and a food processor (Bosch).

I cook regularly and enjoy trying new recipes but haven’t really looked into new appliances yet.
I should also mention that I am planning an outdoor kitchen with a grill station and deep fryer, so while indoor grilling will still be an option, it can be done outside as well. The frying will definitely be outside due to the smell.

But what would you say is so great that you absolutely need to have it?

Cheers

Proper wok burner for outdoors (Roaring Dragon or similar), then it really kicks off.
You can’t sensibly bring everything indoors. A teppan plate is another example; it’s like a pan without edges – it splatters all around. If you want that, you can also place a (grill) plate on a flat induction cooktop, no need for a separate appliance.

I brought back a wok burner from Thailand that works great on the Ikea serving cart... In the kitchen itself, I would say a fully automatic coffee machine... And we have one of those "Lidl Thermomix" types for soups, steaming vegetables, etc.

I managed to get a Bamix immersion blender. I mentioned earlier in this thread that I wouldn’t want to be without an immersion blender. Now I can say: I definitely don’t want to be without a Bamix immersion blender. Bamix is a Swiss company that follows a different approach: the blender relies on speed rather than power. They also emphasize repairability. Every blender lasts at least a lifetime. I was able to get this blender for 35 euros. And now I don’t want to be without it. 🙂

I bought a Lidl Cuisine Monsieur yesterday (but it hasn’t arrived yet), hoping that the "Guided Cooking" feature would help me cook more myself and, above all, healthier. Does anyone have experience with this, or alternatively with the TM?

My ex-wife used to sell the TM. From my own experience – it’s a great but completely overpriced blender/food processor. The Lidl version can do similar things (not quite as perfectly, but with a much better price-performance ratio). Later, we swapped the TM for the Cuisine. Did I really use it for cooking? No. And most people don’t either.

I like my TM, but for me it’s more of an assistant. I’ve also enjoyed cooking even before, so I’m probably not the target audience for your question 🙂 By the way, I bought my TM used. A new one would be far too expensive for me.
