ᐅ Kitchen appliances you wouldn’t want to live without?

Hello everyone,

Like many others, I am building a new house and sooner or later I will need to plan the kitchen as well.
In my current rental apartment, I have a standard fridge-freezer combination stacked vertically (80cm (31.5 inches) wide), a ceramic cooktop, and a combined oven with fan.
I also use countertop appliances like an electric kettle, sous-vide stick, microwave, vacuum sealer, and a food processor (Bosch).

I cook regularly and enjoy trying new recipes but haven’t really looked into new appliances yet.
I should also mention that I am planning an outdoor kitchen with a grill station and deep fryer, so while indoor grilling will still be an option, it can be done outside as well. The frying will definitely be outside due to the smell.

But what would you say is so great that you absolutely need to have it?

Cheers

In Australia, my father had a line from outside, where two large gas cylinders stood (redundancy), leading into the kitchen.
Gas is actually still a bit better for cooking. But cleaning is definitely much easier with an induction cooktop or a ceramic hob in general.
Overall, I would probably still choose electric cooking, even if I had a gas connection.

Hi, a gas line wouldn’t have been approved for us either (due to the external utility room being on the property boundary). So, I have an 11kg (24 lb) gas cylinder with a gas sensor in the utility room. The gas line with a gas outlet socket was installed during the shell construction by the plumber, running all the way to the kitchen. The second cylinder is for the grill anyway (5kg (11 lb)) and could be switched over in an emergency if we run out of gas over the weekend and I really need to cook (but I’d probably just go out to eat :p).

Chefs swear by gas cooktops, and we are also considering one.
Those times are now behind us. Induction is just as popular because it offers nearly identical cooking performance with less maintenance.

And significantly less air pollution. I never imagined cooking with anything other than a gas stove – but our induction cooktop is just as fast, although we have yet to find a good solution for the wok.

Induction wok cooktops do exist. They only make sense if you use the wok frequently and have the space for installation.

There are also induction woks. They work well and get properly hot.
