ᐅ Kitchen appliances you wouldn’t want to live without?

Hello everyone,

Like many others, I am building a new house and sooner or later I will need to plan the kitchen as well.
In my current rental apartment, I have a standard fridge-freezer combination stacked vertically (80cm (31.5 inches) wide), a ceramic cooktop, and a combined oven with fan.
I also use countertop appliances like an electric kettle, sous-vide stick, microwave, vacuum sealer, and a food processor (Bosch).

I cook regularly and enjoy trying new recipes but haven’t really looked into new appliances yet.
I should also mention that I am planning an outdoor kitchen with a grill station and deep fryer, so while indoor grilling will still be an option, it can be done outside as well. The frying will definitely be outside due to the smell.

But what would you say is so great that you absolutely need to have it?

Cheers

That wouldn’t be enough for me, but I also need a lot of space for preparation and cooking. 😀

What is a good brand for that? Berbel? I am planning to install a VENTILATION system since unfortunately there is no window in the kitchen area.
Berbel or similar is definitely top quality. I have a Berbel recirculating hood myself (a large Glassline model), which works better than a T€ 1 ducted hood from BSH (which I had before).

The only real must-have that comes to mind is the induction cooktop.

If you choose a range hood, I recommend one integrated into the cooktop (like Bora or Berbel). I don’t have one myself, but I love cooking with gas.

Fully automatic coffee machine? I am a coffee drinker, but I now prefer to invest more in high-quality coffee beans rather than the machine (you could say that when looking at the per-kilogram price 😉). I use a French press (€59), which goes back into the cupboard after use. An automatic machine would just take up space. The French press can make about four cups at a time, and fresh coffee is ready quickly, all without any noise.

The same goes for the toaster—I’m giving it away now. I realized I don’t even miss it because I warm bread and rolls in the oven.

Don’t skimp on the oven. I initially did, buying a cheaper one, but after three weeks I returned it (from Ikea) and installed a Miele oven instead.

The dishwasher should be very quiet, especially with an open-plan living area. I find the Home Connect feature useful as I use it to run the dishwasher in an “energy-optimized” mode. So far, I haven’t set up any surplus power management for it.

My brother has a Quooker, which I find fantastic. Once I figure out how to fit one into my small kitchen, that will be my next purchase so I can finally get rid of the kettle.

If I had planned more space for the kitchen (and if my apartment were bigger and money no object), a combination unit with a teppanyaki grill would be amazing.

Out of curiosity, I’d like to ask the group who still, again, or additionally cooks with gas?
Chefs often swear by gas cooktops, and we are also considering it.
However, we do not have a gas connection.

I really miss cooking with gas. Induction is great too, almost just as fast and convenient. But only almost. My house doesn’t have a gas connection, so I didn’t have much choice. I’m not very keen on having a gas cylinder inside the house.
