Hello everyone,

I am currently considering the access system for our new build. I am thinking of a keyless system with PIN entry, fingerprint sensor, or something similar.

Which manufacturers should I look into more closely? What systems are you using?

The system is for access to the front door and the garage door. I would prefer not to carry a key, chip, or anything like that.

Security and burglary protection are, of course, very important. The sectional garage door must be able to be opened and closed remotely by radio from the car.

Thanks and best regards

Well, anyone who wants to get in, can get in – there is never complete security...

But anything wireless is inherently less secure.

A mechanical lock also provides only limited protection.

The control unit of the eKey is located in the basement, making it quite inaccessible. The imprint can be copied – as well as others. However, it IS intended to be fairly secure.

We planned to install this fingerprint sensor at the garage:

Gira Keyless In Fingerprint System 55.. approx. 800 euros

The PIN version costs a bit less. The PIN version also offers 2 relay outputs that can be linked to different PINs. I can’t think of a good additional benefit right now; otherwise, I would choose the PIN version.

The parcel carrier receives a code that only allows them to open one section of the gate.

GIRA is overpriced and reportedly prone to malfunctions. I would look around again...

Especially since having a fingerprint scanner at the garage seems rather oversized – how often do you actually use it by hand there?

Yes, just looking at the cost of their video equipment, especially if you want a large indoor monitor, makes my head spin.

When I look at how many supposedly well-protected premium cars, almost 100% equipped with keyless entry systems, have had their owners changed involuntarily in recent weeks and months here, that would be my main concern...

Well, now someone has also figured out the weakness with the wireless keys. That makes even "regular" cars vulnerable. That’s why I really appreciate the convenience of my keyless system.

Most fingerprint readers today have additional sensors that make unauthorized access more difficult. But if someone has the criminal intent to steal, copy, and use my fingerprint, then nothing else would stop them either.

For other access systems, you really do need to educate yourself about security and check what protection options the manufacturer offers. They usually make sense but do cost extra. Of course, everyone has their own ideas about that.

We have a Busch-Jäger combination
Outdoor station: 83122/70/1-660
2 x indoor stations: 83220 Accesspoint-624
IP gateway: 83342

No problems so far

However, everything runs through their servers – so the connection is not secure now, nor in the future when the servers might be shut down.
