Hello everyone,
I recently reassembled my KALLAX shelving unit after moving. I noticed that the shelf is now quite wobbly, even though I tightened all the screws properly.
My question is: does anyone have experience with whether it makes sense to replace the original KALLAX screws after moving?
I’m asking because I’m unsure if the screws lose stability after being assembled and disassembled multiple times, or if different screws (e.g., made from better materials or with a different design) might prevent the wobbling.
I look forward to your insights and tips, especially if anyone has actually replaced the screws and can share how that affected the stability!

Screws with the same diameter but made of hardened materialThanks for the detailed information, edisondan. I’m wondering: Are there recommended replacement screws specifically for KALLAX, or is it more of a hit-or-miss situation?
Also, I’m still using the included wall anchors, but I have the impression that the small plastic anchors might have been damaged during the move. It might be worth replacing them, don’t you think?
I’m a bit unsure whether I should stick to the original IKEA parts or buy suitable replacements at a hardware store that might be more practical.

Unfortunately, there are no direct replacement dowels from IKEA, as these are often tailored to the specific material. However, you can find high-quality universal dowels at hardware stores, which can sometimes be even more durable.
If you plan to assemble and disassemble the shelf frequently, these alternatives are even more advisable.
Also, make sure to screw in the screws slowly and evenly to avoid putting extra stress on the material.
