Hello everyone,

I have an issue with the Kallax storage boxes from IKEA: the boxes often slip out when I try to pull them out of the shelf or they don’t fit snugly. It’s quite annoying because I have to readjust them frequently, or the boxes tip over when pulled out. Has anyone experienced the same problem and maybe found a solution? I’m especially looking for so-called stoppers or similar aids that prevent the boxes from sliding out or falling unintentionally from the Kallax shelf. Is there anything you can recommend? Thanks in advance for your tips!

This issue is well known among many users. The Kallax boxes are not equipped with an automatic stopper or locking mechanism. A proven solution is to use self-adhesive felt pads for furniture, which can be applied to the side surfaces or the bottom area of the box. These increase the friction between the box and the shelf, effectively preventing unintended falls. Alternatively, some third-party suppliers offer custom rubber or plastic stoppers that can be mounted on the edges.

It is important that the stoppers do not add too much thickness, as this might cause the boxes not to fit properly into the compartments. A simple and cost-effective option are also small rubber bumpers, like those used for cabinet doors.

If more aggressive prevention of slipping is needed, using hook-and-loop fasteners (Velcro) can also be considered, as they create a secure but reversible connection.

Exactly, I use those too. Just attach them to the sides, and the boxes will stay securely in place. Low cost and easy to install.

I know this problem all too well! But I’ve solved it and am really happy with the result 🙂 I stuck small silicone stop pads under the boxes, and they hold very well! No more slipping and dropping is a thing of the past. Adding a little extra grip on the sides also helped. It’s super simple and very effective! Give it a try, it’s really great! 🙂

Hello Fiedgard,

a simple solution with felt or rubber pads is definitely a good first step. I can add that some users also attach small hook strips or magnetic strips to the back panel of the shelf to stop the boxes from falling forward. However, this requires some DIY skills and craftsmanship.

If you need to pull the boxes out frequently, a gentle length limiter would be ideal. For this, you can fix a thin elastic or silicone band to the rear edge of the box that isn’t too tight but provides some resistance when pulling out. This way, the boxes stay securely in place without getting stuck.

You can also look for IKEA-compatible accessories; third-party suppliers sometimes offer modified inserts with built-in stoppers. If you like, I can find a few links for you.
