Hello everyone,

I have a KALLAX shelf unit from IKEA, which I actually find very practical, but I notice that this shelf constantly gets dusty. No matter how often I wipe it down, after just a few days there is a visible layer of dust on the shelves or inside the compartments.

My question to you is: What are your best cleaning tips or methods to keep the KALLAX shelf as dust-free and clean as possible? Do you use any special products or techniques to prevent or minimize dust? Tips on how often to clean would also be great. Thanks in advance!

If you want to keep dust away for longer, you can apply furniture polish with antistatic properties. However, use it sparingly and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

That sounds interesting. Are there any specific products you would recommend for KALLAX or generally for thin laminate surfaces? Some polishes can be quite harsh.

For your needs, I recommend a mild, silicone-free furniture care product such as "Frosch Furniture Care" or "Dr. Schutz Furniture & Wood Care."

Important: Always test on an inconspicuous area before use to ensure the laminate surface is not damaged.

Avoid aggressive polishes with solvents or silicone, as these can cause long-term damage to the surface.

One more note on the technical side:

If dusty areas like the cabinet body or interior compartments are particularly problematic, you might consider lightly spraying the shelf components with an anti-static spray.

Be sure to apply the spray only sparingly and avoid soaking connection points or corners. This also helps slow down dust buildup, but the protective effect does not last indefinitely and needs to be reapplied regularly.

If you use the shelf frequently or have books stored in it, especially when maintaining doors or flip-top boxes, pay close attention to compatibility with the materials involved.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful tips!

I will get some anti-static cloths and change my cleaning routine: first vacuum, then wipe with a damp cloth, and finally, if needed, try a mild furniture polish. The advice on moisture level and product selection was very helpful, as I often clean with too much water.

Over time, I will observe how much this affects dust buildup. If I have further questions, I will reach out here again.
