Hello everyone,
I urgently need some advice: My IKEA KALLAX shelf got several quite noticeable scratches on its surface during transport in the elevator. The shelf is white, and the scratches are visible in several spots, some of them somewhat deep, not just superficial. I suspect the damage happened while maneuvering in the tight elevator space, possibly from contact with metal or wooden edges.
Does anyone know effective ways to remove or at least visually improve such scratches on the KALLAX after elevator transport? I don’t have professional tools or paints, but I would appreciate DIY tips that can be done with common household items or simple products.
Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

I would recommend using special furniture repair kits for white shelf surfaces, as the color tone usually matches better than with standard markers like permanent or touch-up paint pens. Important: always test on an inconspicuous area before use.
And be careful when sanding: for light-colored furniture, a high-grit micro-mesh sanding pad works perfectly. It is thinner than regular sandpaper and removes less material.

Thanks to everyone for the detailed advice. To summarize, I’ll first try gentle cleaning and toothpaste for the superficial scratches. For the deeper ones, I’ll get a Micro-Mesh pad and use a white repair marker.
If I’m lucky, after applying and drying, the damage will be gone or barely noticeable. I’ll report back if it worked! 🙂
