Hello everyone, some time ago I bought a KALLAX shelving unit from IKEA in the color black-brown. Now, one of the shelves has broken, and I want to order replacement parts or the shelving unit in exactly this color. Unfortunately, it seems IKEA no longer offers this old color—it is usually just referred to as black or white nowadays.
My question to you: Have you found a solution or an alternative to get this exact old color again or to replace it? I have considered whether it might be worth refinishing the shelf with paint or if there are any recommended third-party suppliers.
I look forward to your experiences and tips!

Does anyone have experience with how much it might cost to refinish a single shelf unit approximately? Some time ago, I had a small shelf board darkened, which cost me about 30-40 euros. Prices naturally vary depending on the region and desired quality.
If you decide to refinish it yourself, you can get materials for around 15-20 euros. It’s important to sand thoroughly and use a suitable finish.
Hello tiriga,
I can relate to your situation well, as I also have KALLAX shelves in older colors and have dealt with repainting them several times.
If you decide to repaint them yourself, I definitely recommend ordering a small sample piece from a paint supplier. This way, you can be sure the color tone matches well.
You should also thoroughly clean and sand the surface before painting, as this helps the paint adhere better.
If you like, I can share some additional tips for painting at home.

One more point: pay attention to the drying time of the paint and work in a well-ventilated area, as otherwise the paint can quickly become uneven or brittle.
