lumatteo4825 Aug 2022 09:12Hello everyone,
I have a Kallax shelf on my bathroom floor, which is fully tiled. Unfortunately, I notice that the shelf tends to slip quite easily on the smooth tiles, especially when I open the doors or place heavy items inside.
Now I am considering whether an anti-slip mat under the Kallax shelf would be useful to reduce the risk of slipping. Has anyone had experience with anti-slip mats under furniture on tiled floors?
I am particularly interested in which materials work best, whether the mats leave residues afterward, and if there are alternatives to keep the shelf securely in place on the floor.
I appreciate any tips and recommendations!

Now I’m wondering if an anti-slip mat under the Kallax shelf would make sense to minimize the risk of slipping.Absolutely, an anti-slip mat is often a great everyday solution! 😄 On tiles, it really helps to keep furniture in place. I have one made of rubber that’s easy to cut to size and doesn’t leave any marks. It’s important that the mat isn’t too thin, otherwise it won’t be effective and the shelf will still slip.
Sometimes double-sided tape can work too, but it’s not ideal on smooth tiles because it can leave residue. Just try a good rubber mat—you can hardly go wrong!

Which materials are best suited,Here is a brief overview of materials commonly used for non-slip mats:
1. Rubber: Very grippy and durable, ideal for smooth tiles. Usually does not leave any residue.
2. EVA foam: Softer, good for cushioning, but may deform over time.
3. Felt with rubber backing: Prevents scratches, but offers less slip resistance.
My recommendation: For your Kallax on tiles, use rubber-based non-slip mats at least 3mm (1/8 inch) thick. These cut easily, are long-lasting, and simple to clean.
If you’re uncertain, test the mat first in an inconspicuous spot. Important: Clean both the floor and the underside of the shelf thoroughly beforehand, otherwise the mat won’t stick well!
A non-slip mat is generally recommended. However, you should also check if the tiles are clean and dry. Dirt particles or moisture can reduce adhesion.
Have you ever considered small, transparent furniture feet with rubber coating? They also provide grip and often look better than a visible mat.

Have you ever considered small, transparent furniture feet with a rubber coating? Thanks for the tip! I hadn’t thought about that before. Do you think these feet provide enough stability for the weight and surface area of a Kallax shelf unit, or would a full non-slip mat be better?
I mainly want to avoid the furniture wobbling or eventually coming loose. Are there any experiences with this?

Anti-slip mats distribute pressure more evenly over a larger area, reducing the risk of tipping movements.
Recommendation: For a relatively large and heavy Kallax, an anti-slip mat is usually the more stable solution.
