Hello everyone,
I noticed that one of the mounting brackets is missing from my new Kallax shelf unit. Specifically, it’s the small metal clip used to secure or stabilize the shelf to the wall. Since I need to assemble the shelf urgently and don’t have time to wait for a replacement, I’m wondering how I can improvise.
What simple and safe solutions do you know to replace a missing Kallax bracket? Are there alternatives that are stable enough without using specialized parts? I want to make sure the shelf is securely anchored to prevent tipping, without scratching or damaging it.
I look forward to your ideas and experiences!

Hello Kakarin,
If the original hanger is missing, you can proceed as follows:
1. Obtain materials: Small metal brackets (2-3 cm (1-1¼ inches) wide) and suitable wood screws
2. Determine the position: On the top back of the Kallax unit, where the hanger is usually located
3. Attach: Use one or two screws per bracket, making sure the bracket does not protrude into the shelf interior
4. Wall mounting: Use appropriate wall plugs and screws for your wall to ensure everything is securely fixed and stable
Important: The screws should be short enough not to go through the entire shelf, but still hold firmly.
This is not a perfect 1:1 replica of the IKEA part, but a solid and secure solution.

A good option is to install metal brackets, as mentioned earlier. Make sure the shelf is positioned as close to the wall as possible and that the brackets are mounted to withstand pulling forces.
If you do not want to attach the shelf permanently to the wall, an anti-tip safety strap can be an alternative. This strap is fixed to screws in the wall and the shelf and is often also available as a child safety device.
