Hello everyone, I recently moved and noticed that my Kallax shelf got quite a few damages during transport. The surface has scratches, there are even small dents in the wood in some spots, and a few tears along the edges. Now I’m wondering: which damages on the Kallax should I actually repair, and which ones can be left as they are without affecting the stability or function? I would like to make the surface look nice again, but I’m unsure if it’s worth the effort for minor signs of wear. Does anyone have experience with this or tips on how to repair the damage on a Kallax effectively and permanently without ruining the furniture?

Sometimes it helps not to exaggerate the flaws. After moving, my Kallax was also full of marks, but I only glued the largest cracks and left the rest as they were – now it even looks quite "used," which has its own charm. 🙂 What really matters is making sure the shelf stands firmly and that no damage compromises its overall load capacity. You can always improve the appearance later if you feel like taking on a small DIY project.

Are there specific areas that seem critical to you?

Good question! Especially with Kallax shelves, many of the panels are part of a slot-in system. If cracks appear right at the connecting points, you should act quickly to prevent the furniture from becoming unstable. For all other areas, the rule is: "Less is often more." I like the look of lightly used furniture – it tells a story. In your case, I would first check the stability and then take care of the rest quite calmly. If you want, I can recommend a short DIY video that shows how to quickly and neatly refresh surfaces. ;-)
