Hello everyone,
I left my Kallax shelf in the sun for several weeks to place some plants on it. Unfortunately, the surface of the shelf has faded significantly—almost white in some sun-exposed areas. My question is: How can I restore or at least visually improve this faded surface without repainting the entire shelf? Are there methods to balance or mask the fading without changing the original look too much?
Thanks for your tips and experiences!

Important:
- Buy high-quality film that is UV-resistant.
- Make sure the surface is extremely clean and free of grease before applying.
- Press the film firmly to avoid air bubbles.
Moisture is generally a concern because Kallax is made of particleboard and can swell. Make sure to place coasters under plants so that no moisture comes into direct contact with the film or the board. Otherwise, this is a practical solution that also improves the appearance significantly.

Thank you for the tips and explanations. Overall, I’m now quite skeptical about using stain or sanding on Kallax due to the melamine coating.
The approach with a furniture touch-up marker and self-adhesive foil sounds more practical and less damaging. I will start by treating the small spots with a suitable marker and consider using foil for the more severe areas.
If anyone has advice on how to accurately find the right color for furniture markers or knows good sources, I would appreciate it.
Thanks to everyone so far for the helpful ideas!
