ᐅ Kallax drawers slipped out – did you forget the stops?

Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my Ikea Kallax shelf drawers that has me a bit confused. The drawers keep sliding all the way out when I pull them too far. Apparently, I either missed or left out the small plastic stoppers that secure the drawers during assembly.

My specific question is:

Is it really necessary to use these plastic stoppers, or are there simpler solutions to prevent the drawers from coming out completely?

I’m mainly looking for reliable alternatives or tips on how to solve this problem permanently without having to disassemble the entire shelf. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

whether there are soft-close stainless steel or metal runners for the Kallax

The Kallax was designed for simple clip-in and push-fit connections. If you want metal runners, you will need to consider a different shelving unit.

A small tip: For me, it helped to secure the stoppers with a bit of construction adhesive. This prevents them from loosening or shifting when pulling the drawer out.

Although this method isn’t officially approved, it has worked very well for me for over a year without any issues.

Thank you very much for the detailed tips!

I will clear out the drawers today, order the stoppers, and install them. I find the idea of using mounting adhesive practical and will give it a try.

I will report back here on how it went, in case anyone is interested.

Yes, please do. It would be especially interesting to know if you notice improved durability or other effects using the construction adhesive solution.

Good luck with the renovation!

Addendum: If you buy new stoppers, make sure you get the correct version for your Kallax shelving unit. The stoppers for the newer series differ slightly in fit compared to the older ones.
