Hello everyone,
A few weeks ago, I bought a KALLAX shelving unit with doors. Unfortunately, I have now noticed that the paint is chipping off along the edges of some of the doors. It seems like the surface is not very durable.
My question is: Should I file a complaint and insist on a replacement, or would it make more sense to touch up and repair the chipped areas myself?
I would like to hear about your experiences with situations like this. Is the customer service accommodating? How long does such a complaint usually take? And how well does a self-repair actually hold up?
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Stay polite, that usually helps.Well, that’s the mantra of all customer service representatives. I believe that if you politely insist on clear defects, IKEA is actually quite cooperative. You just usually need to be patient.
Update on my complaint: I visited the branch yesterday, and the staff were very friendly and inspected the doors right away. They said I would receive new doors, with the replacement scheduled for next week.
It seems everything is going well – my concern that this would be complicated was unfounded.
However, I will touch up a few spots with paint to fix minor scratches. Thanks again to LOGEMIN for the detailed advice on this!

When the new doors arrive, it’s best to carefully check all parts during handover.Definitely a good tip, thanks! I will thoroughly inspect all door surfaces for possible defects before installation.
One more question for the group: Do you have experience with how long it takes for new paint applied in a DIY repair to fully dry and become resistant to wear?

How long does it take for the new paint to dry and become durable?Typically, acrylic-based paint is dust dry after about 1–2 hours and fully cured after 24 hours.
However, the coating often reaches its full hardness only after about 3–7 days. During this time, the surface should be handled gently to avoid scratches.
