ᐅ KALLAX Doors Occasionally Difficult to Open – What Could Be the Cause?

Good morning everyone,
For the past few weeks, I have been experiencing an issue with the doors of my IKEA KALLAX shelving unit, where they sometimes become very difficult to open and close. This does not happen consistently but rather in phases – sometimes the doors operate smoothly, then they stick again and require much more force to move.
My question is: What could be causing this? I have already checked whether anything has come loose in the hinges or if any screws are loose, but I couldn’t find anything unusual. It also doesn’t seem directly related to dust or foreign objects in the hinges.
Does anyone have an idea if this might be due to fluctuations in temperature or humidity? Or does anyone know of a similar problem and can share advice on how to permanently fix such troublesome stiffness? I would appreciate any expert opinions!

Regarding precision once again:
Be sure to check if the doors are perfectly perpendicular to the shelving. The shelving unit itself often shifts slightly in the installation area, especially on tiled or uneven floors. Small spacers or furniture pads can help stabilize the setup.

This is amazing, all the things that come together here! 🙂
In my case, it finally helped to simply take the doors off their hinges and lightly sand their edges. Be careful not to remove too much, but it can help to gently take off a little material where sharp spots are sticking.
Moisture can cause quite a bit, but sometimes it’s just the small mechanical adjustments that solve the problem. Good luck to you all!

Thank you all for your detailed tips and explanations!
Last night, I checked the hinges again, tightened the screws, and treated them with a PTFE spray – since then, the door feels much smoother. The shelf was actually slightly tilted as well, so I’ll try using furniture pads today.
NUPIN’s suggestion about light sanding sounds interesting, but I’ll hold off on that for now since I don’t want to alter the doors too much.
I’ll get back to you with an update. Thanks again to everyone for the helpful support!
