Hello everyone, I recently fitted an Ikea Kallax shelving unit with matching doors. However, I have noticed that the doors were mounted too deep, meaning they sit much lower in the frame and do not align flush with the top edge of the shelving unit. This not only looks unattractive but also makes operation more difficult because they catch on the bottom edge.
Now my actual question: How can I remove the doors from a Kallax unit if they have been installed too deep? Do I need to dismantle the hinges, or is there a trick to take the doors off without damaging the entire structure? I would really appreciate any tips, experiences, or a step-by-step guide!

Uneven forces can damage hingesThis is exactly the point: levering sounds simple, but if you apply too much force, you can damage the mechanism and the door won’t fit properly afterwards. A clear guide with safety warnings would be ideal here.
Thanks to everyone for the helpful advice!
I will try gently lifting it first as recommended, and if that doesn’t work, I will loosen the screws.
One last question: Is there a recommended procedure for positioning the door correctly during installation to prevent it from sitting too low? I definitely want to avoid that mistake when reinstalling.

When installing the doors on Kallax units, the hinges can usually be adjusted in depth, height, and sideways.
Use the adjustment screws on the hinges to align the door edge flush with the shelf frame. To adjust the height, loosen the vertical screw, move the door, and then tighten it again.
This is a major advantage of these clip hinges and helps to align the doors precisely.

Is there a recommended procedure for the correct positioning of the door during installation?Yes, I recommend following these steps:
1) Initially place the door and loosely attach the hinges by hand.
2) Test the hinges and check that the door sits flush.
3) Carefully adjust the hinge adjustment screws with a Phillips screwdriver to set the height, depth, and lateral alignment.
4) Once the desired position is achieved, tighten all screws securely.
5) Open and close the door several times to ensure it closes properly and fits well.
This method helps prevent issues with the door sitting too low or crooked.
