Hello everyone,

I have an issue with my Ikea Kallax shelves where the doors quickly develop spots after wiping them with a damp cloth. Especially when they come into contact with a little water or a damp cloth, unattractive water spots or dull marks appear on the surface. I usually use only a slightly damp microfiber cloth without any cleaning agents to remove dust and dirt. The Kallax doors are painted and seem fairly resistant at first, but I find it confusing that they look spotted after drying.

Has anyone experienced this and knows the best way to clean Kallax doors without leaving spots? Are there specific products that help prevent water marks or other recommended approaches? I want to avoid using harsh chemicals that might damage the finish. I would appreciate any tips, including care methods or alternative cleaning techniques. Thanks!

For the systematic care of matte lacquered Kallax doors, I recommend:

- Cleaning with a pH-neutral detergent to avoid damaging the paint layer.
- Using microfiber cloths that do not leave scratches.
- After damp wiping, always dry immediately to prevent water spots caused by minerals.

Regarding protection:
- Furniture care products based on silicone or wax can create a slight sealant that better protects the surface from moisture.
- It is advisable to test the product on an inconspicuous area first to ensure it does not alter the matte appearance.

This procedure is a proven practice in furniture maintenance and ensures a long-lasting clean surface.

One more question: Do you have experience with suitable furniture care products that can be applied to Kallax doors to better protect them and permanently prevent such stains?

I agree and would like to recommend something similar: simple products like the well-known beeswax polish work really well. Apply it sparingly to create the right protective layer and also enhance the appearance.

Also, patience always helps – allow it to dry thoroughly and avoid using too much water at once. Kallax doors aren’t high-tech surfaces, so a bit of care does make a difference.

Give it a try and feel free to share your results.
