ᐅ Kallax doors are coming off their tracks – is repair possible?

Hello everyone,

I’ve noticed that the doors of my IKEA Kallax shelving unit tend to come off their tracks after some time. The rails no longer seem to hold the doors securely, which makes opening and closing increasingly difficult. This issue is especially noticeable with the upper tracks, where the doors often don’t latch properly and therefore become misaligned or rattle.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? Is it possible to repair the rails or the doors themselves without having to replace the entire system? Any tips on suitable spare parts or DIY solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I can completely understand how frustrating this problem can be, especially when you get annoyed every time the doors don’t slide smoothly.

I had a similar issue with a Kallax unit at my home. In the end, removing the entire track and rollers completely and cleaning everything thoroughly helped. The rollers had become clogged with dust and small debris, causing them to barely roll properly.

Even applying a drop of silicone oil made a big difference. Since then, the doors slide like new again. However, I had ordered replacement parts in advance just in case something broke.

So, don’t despair – you can really fix a lot without having to buy new doors. Please feel free to ask if you want more tips or even photos of the replacement parts I purchased.

Hey Marmau and all other Kallax fans :-)

I also had issues with doors coming off their tracks, and I can only say: a bit of patience, a touch of care, and everything will work smoothly again!

It’s really important to know the exact type of track

That’s really the key. I first had to figure out which types of tracks and rollers were installed before I could order anything. After that, it was easy.

My advice: first check and tighten all screws before rushing to replace parts. Even small screws often make the difference.

And hey, a little maintenance usually helps more than you think – some cleaning, gentle lubrication, and voilà, runs like clockwork 🙂

Good luck to everyone with the repairs!
