Hello everyone, I have a problem with my IKEA KALLAX shelf unit, specifically with the door, which keeps coming loose from the hinges and eventually falls off. The hinges appear to be installed correctly, but it seems that the weight of the door or the stress on it causes them to loosen over time and eventually lose support.

My question is: Are there alternative hinges that are better suited for KALLAX doors within the IKEA community or generally here in the forum? Or perhaps there is another solution to permanently fix this issue without having to constantly readjust the original hinges?

I’m open to practical advice and would appreciate specific recommendations regarding hinge replacement or reinforcing the door attachment. Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem. I replaced my doors with stronger hinges from the hardware store. They are more durable and less likely to break out. Make sure the screws are driven in deep enough, and then it should work fine.

Hey, I totally know what you mean! KALLAX is great, but the doors can sometimes be real divas ;-)

I’ve heard of special European-style insert hinges that are supposed to be more robust than the standard ones. They’re often made of metal and have stronger return springs, which helps prevent the door from sagging quickly.

And if you’re a bit handy: one tip is to secure the hinge screws with longer dowels into the cabinet frame, which significantly improves durability.

One more thing: sometimes using a small washer to relieve pressure on the hinge can help. Try that out, it might save your door from falling off. Good luck! 🙂

I completely agree. The original hinges are often designed for lighter doors.

Alternatively, you can search online for “concealed hinges with adjustment mechanism.” These allow better alignment and usually last longer.

One more tip: Check if the mounting screws fit precisely into the wall plugs. If there is any play, everything will loosen quickly.
