Hello everyone,
I have been using several IKEA Kallax shelves for about a year now, all in white. I have increasingly noticed that the color on the shelves and the sides facing the window is fading significantly, appearing yellowish or dull.
I am wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences with Kallax in direct sunlight? I am especially interested in whether this discoloration is a general issue with the surface coating used or if it is more related to your specific light conditions.
Are there any tips on how to prevent this fading, or is repainting or refinishing inevitable after a while?
I look forward to your feedback and, ideally, concrete solutions. Thank you in advance!

Window films or relocating the shelfThank you for your insights! They confirm my suspicion: the material quality is acceptable, but it is not designed for intense UV light exposure.
I will now try to move the shelf away from the window and use a thin white curtain. If I decide to renovate – does anyone have experience with special coatings or spray paints that adhere to melamine-coated panels and are UV-resistant?
Repainting melamine-coated surfaces is challenging because the surface is very smooth and non-porous. Usually, special preparations such as sanding and priming are necessary.
It is better to have a professional do the job or consider using protective film, which lasts longer and is reversible.

Thank you for all the professional input! The topic is definitely not simple, especially when aiming for an affordable price and design.
