ᐅ KALLAX as a Room Divider Under a Sloped Ceiling – Installation Challenges?

pinfeHello everyone,
I am considering using an IKEA KALLAX shelf as a room divider under a sloped ceiling, since my room has an angled roof and I want to separate the living and working areas.
My question mainly concerns the practical implementation: Does anyone have experience or tips on how to install the KALLAX shelf under a sloped ceiling without it wobbling or leaning?
I am thinking, for example, about securing it to the sloped wall, whether the shelf needs to be stabilized somehow, and how to compensate for any height differences caused by the slope.
I am also interested in whether there are any issues with installation if the shelf cannot be placed perfectly vertical but still needs to visually fit the angle of the sloped ceiling.
Perhaps there are specific tools or modified KALLAX versions that are better suited for these situations.
I would be very grateful for practical advice, experience reports, or even constructive criticism!

Super exciting to do something like this! 🙂 I have a KALLAX myself installed under a sloped ceiling and can say: build lightweight wooden supports that you slide under the shelf – this compensates for unevenness very well.
Absolutely. Especially with sloped ceilings, it often looks odd if a shelf only partially touches the wall. A bit of DIY is always worth it 😉

It’s best to measure exactly the lowest point of the slope and position the shelf so that it rests there.

Securing the shelf to the sloped ceiling can help keep it stable. It is advisable to use appropriate brackets and possibly fix the lower part of the shelf to the ceiling or floor as well.
Alternatively, there are KALLAX units with legs that better compensate for height differences. That might be an option worth considering.

For stability when installing at an angle, I recommend precisely fitting or even slightly trimming the back panel of the KALLAX shelf unit, if you have the necessary DIY skills.
A common mistake is to simply place the shelf upright with only minimal adjustments, which results in an unstable construction.
It is important that the shelf stands vertically, even if the wall is angled. Otherwise, it will appear unstable or may tip over.
One option is to position the shelf so that it stands parallel to the knee wall and use the sloped ceiling as a top finish.
