Hello everyone,

I am currently considering whether it makes sense to replace the standard doors on a KALLAX shelving unit with adhesive doors. My goal is to achieve a more modern and personalized look while avoiding drilling holes or installing difficult-to-mount hinges.

Has anyone had experience with adhesive doors that are directly applied to the KALLAX fronts? How are they in terms of durability, appearance, and functionality?

I am especially interested in whether the adhesive doors hold up over time, how easily they can be removed if needed, and whether there are any issues with the shelves, for example due to flexible adhesive strips or warping of the doors.

Looking forward to your opinions and experiences!

If you use good adhesive tapes, the doors hold pretty well.

Thanks for the tip, I will keep that in mind.

Maybe this could be an alternative for you? Adhesive doors sound cool in general, but I guess you lose some flexibility and the DIY fun if everything is just glued. 🙂

Yes, flexibility is important to me, but I still want something sturdy. Magnets also sound interesting – have you used a specific brand or type? And how does it look when you stick them on the front?

A small addition from me: I briefly considered adhesive doors but decided against them due to concerns about their durability.

However, I find it nice to see how versatile a KALLAX unit can be.

Perhaps a compromise is to combine different options, for example, hinged doors on the lower part and adhesive doors on the upper part as a flexible solution. This can make sense depending on the usage and also looks creative.

Personally, for frequent use, I would prefer classic hinged doors, as I would find sudden detachment or shifting of adhesive doors annoying.
