Hello,
since April 2013, we have been living in our new end-terrace house on the left bank near Cologne.
After a relatively short time, we noticed that the water pressure on the first floor noticeably decreased in the shower.
So, I unscrewed the showerhead, removed the flow restrictor, and continued. That would still be okay, although I have never experienced such a rapid buildup of limescale before.
In the last few days, however, I have had to empty the showerhead several times during showering just to be able to shower at all, otherwise only clumps come out. You can also feel the limescale granules very clearly on your feet in the shower tray, as if you had just come from the beach.
I suspect it is limescale, it looks whitish like sand. I have not yet tested it with vinegar.
The row of nine houses shares a central heating system at the end of the row. All the others do not seem to have this problem as severely.
Am I just unlucky here, or was some poor workmanship involved somewhere?

This issue falls under the warranty, so the company should take care of the repair.
No one here in the forum will be able to help.
Without knowing your technical equipment, one can only guess. Scale doesn’t usually form that quickly. We have/had water hardness of 20 (approximately 357 ppm), and even then, it took about half a year before the showerhead needed soaking in vinegar overnight.
I would rule out construction dirt after six months.
We have a filter on the water supply line that removes particles. If that’s broken, sand could get into the pipes.
Other than that, no idea. A professional needs to take a look here. 🙂

Both the construction company and the plumbing company deny any responsibility and refer to the hard water in Cologne, saying there is unfortunately nothing that can be done about it. So, I am left standing there clueless.
Who should I contact to get a clear and straightforward answer about what is possible and what is not? Perhaps someone who can also assess the system, like a lawyer and/or an expert?

If you are sure it’s not limescale, you will probably need to consult an expert.
How hot is the water coming from the showerhead? Do you shower with very hot water? Because the hotter the water, the more limescale will deposit.
What happens if you replace the showerhead? There are already affordable ones for around 10 €. Does the problem reoccur as quickly then?
