ᐅ Is window planning strictly required to follow DIN 5034-2021-08?

Our architect says that the window size must be planned according to DIN 5034-2021-08 (new single-family house). This is estimated to cost about 3000 EUR, as complex calculations and outsourcing are necessary. How binding is this DIN standard? Would the building permit / planning permission likely still be approved if the brightness (etc.) required by the standard is not fully met everywhere?

We have signed the contract covering all service phases. Ouch. I hope that’s only up to and including service phase 8, because service phase 9 is a pointless billing item for an owner-occupied single-family house. Would I trust this architect with service phase 8? Hmm, probably not—I don’t really see him as a hands-on professional.

Up to design phase 8. An older gentleman with over 40 years of experience, according to his own statement. He has built many single-family homes (also kindergartens, etc.). He is currently building for a casual acquaintance in town (see photo in another thread). The acquaintance is very satisfied with him and says he spends a lot of time on the construction site and takes good care of things. However, the acquaintance is a complete layperson. The partially neglected lap joint measurements already made me suspicious. Too late now. We probably have to go through with it and hope for the best. I will likely involve an additional inspector for targeted assessments. Does anyone have any suggestions for my situation? What would you do?
