Hello,
I have a garden with a prefabricated garden shed made in the former GDR. I am currently cleaning up the tool shed and found these boards in a corner behind some wood scraps. I’m not sure if they contain asbestos. There are two different types: four rough fiberboards measuring 2m x 0.60m (6 ft 7 in x 2 ft) and five solid boards about 1.20m x 0.70m (4 ft x 2 ft 4 in).
Does anyone know what material this might be and how I can dispose of it safely? These boards have probably been stored there for around forty years. The previous owners have passed away, and the heirs had no idea about this. Maybe someone here can help me.
Thank you very much in advance!

Asbestos in asbestos boards cannot be tested over the Internet; this can only be done by a laboratory. Therefore, be cautious about any assumptions made here based on the pictures.

The boards look to me like fiber cement boards, Heraklith, or similar. In my opinion, these were never produced with asbestos, if they are indeed Heraklith boards.

In the first pictures (the rough material), I would also say that it is Heraklith.

The other, smoother panels, I would suspect might be asbestos boards. But that is just a guess.

I would at least wrap the 5 panels in plastic and then take them to a landfill. Then dispose of them there as asbestos.

It is always difficult to identify asbestos in asbestos boards just by looking at photos. The thin boards could also be old carpets, which is simply not visible.
