I have a specific question about caring for furniture made from Malm wood: Are there any special varnish care products that are specifically designed for the lacquered surfaces of Malm wood furniture? I understand that Malm wood has a unique grain and surface that differs from other types of wood, and I would like to know if there are particular care products or treatment methods developed especially to protect and preserve the lacquer finish over time. I am also interested in whether conventional furniture polishes or waxes might be unsuitable, as I want to avoid residue buildup or dulling of the lacquer.

That is a very good question, which is likely of interest to many of us, especially those who own furniture made from Malm wood. I think it is important to openly address these uncertainties because often you receive contradictory information: some say you can use regular furniture care products, while others recommend special lacquer care.

This is exactly where my concern lies: could the lacquer be affected by common polishes or waxes? So far, I have always used conventional polishes, but with some pieces of furniture, I have noticed that the surface appeared somewhat dull after treatment. I would appreciate it if anyone could share their experiences with special care products or DIY methods.

To answer this question in detail, it is important first to consider the structure and characteristics of Malm wood surfaces. Malm wood is known for its dense and relatively uniform grain. However, the finish applied to such surfaces can vary greatly, depending on whether it is a high-gloss, satin, or matte finish.

It is therefore essential to know exactly which type of finish you have before performing any maintenance.

Many conventional polishes contain silicones or waxes, which are intended for wood surfaces but can seal the finish on lacquered surfaces. Over time, this often results in a dull appearance or even peeling.

For lacquered Malm wood surfaces, I specifically recommend products labeled as "lacquer care," which do not contain waxes or oils but are water-based and gently maintain the surface without sealing or compacting it.

Perhaps you can specify which finish was used on your furniture? That would certainly help to provide more precise recommendations.

Basically, the care of lacquered Malm wood does not fundamentally differ from that of other lacquered wood surfaces. The key factor is always the type of lacquer.

This matches my experience as well. It is best to avoid products containing silicone or wax, as these tend to leave residues that are difficult to remove.

I recommend regular, gentle cleaning with a damp, slightly microfiber cloth and occasional use of a special lacquer care product, available as a spray or liquid. This refreshes the lacquer surface without damaging it.

Do not use waxes or oils on lacquered Malm wood. Use mild, pH-neutral cleaning agents and a lacquer care product without silicone. This keeps the surface protected and shiny.

If you want truly professional care, I recommend paint care products from brands like Auro or Frosch. They are water-based and do not damage the paint.
